Trivia / Zara and Erika: A Tale of Annabelle

Go To

  • Attention Deficit Creator Disorder: Diesel Claus, the series finale of Caillou And Dora The Teenage Years, Seasons 3 & 4 of Zara & Erika, and the first season of Violy and Jahari were also being worked on during various points of the movie.
  • Clumsy Copyright Censorship: A handful of songs, mainly from The Weeknd, had to be replaced before the movie was released.
  • Distanced from Current Events: A scene where Annabelle and Shinji form a tornado was dropped due to a deadly tornado touching down in Kansas.
  • Edited for Syndication: A week after release, a TV edit for the movie was released, with the profanity, violence, and sexual content heavily toned down, as well as jokes deemed too dark. Some notable edits include:
    • Erikasha’s movie etiquette is completely removed.
    • The orgy at the party is heavily implied instead, and all traces of it onscreen have been removed.
    • Seth and Maya’s fling, as well as her being disappointed by it, was removed.
    • Erika waiting for Zara in the car, only to go up to her room and find her penetrating a man with a strap-on, is cut out, as well as the time card.
    • At the motel party, Zack and Zara are humiliated by failing Trivial Pursuit instead of the game where they accidentally have sex with each other
    • Seth’s fantasy about Erika has them fully clothed instead, and he leans into kiss her instead at the end of it instead going down on her.
    • Nearly all of Annabelle and Shinji’s killings have the blood reduced or a red flash placed over the impact. The cop rampage cuts the final scene of them running away while cops are chopped up or burning in the background.
    • All scenes with Mindy’s (Little Bill’s girlfriend) cannibalism is cut.
    • Zara is cut off earlier before she tries to say she’s still a “real nigga”, so you don’t hear the n word at all rather than “real ni-“
    • Annabelle’s suggestion that her and Shinji make love on top of their victim’s corpse was changed to her suggesting they make love in the graveyard and spend the night instead.
    • When the guard sprays Zara with the hose and she gets turned on, her dialogue is made less suggestive.
    • Diesel literally kissing Kimberly’s ass after insulting her is cut. Also, the scene of her giving him a blowjob in a car, resulting in a highway crash, is removed completely.
    • Both Caught with Your Pants Down scenes were edited. Barney’s was removed, while Dean just laughs at Barney in the home theater instead.
    • In order to get gas, Zara does a cowboy dance for Seth instead of giving him a handjob.
    • When Diesel is caught having sex with Mrs. Claus, the edit changes it so him and her are laying under a blanket, so the sex is implied instead of actually shown.
    • Most of the songs have been switched to their clean versions, including the “Merry Muthaphukkin Christmas” song in the credits.
  • What Could Have Been: The film was originally aimed at a PG-13 in the earliest stages, then R, and finally, Michael Mixer Mason aimed for an NC-17. This was partially due to the lackluster response for Zara and Erika's third season, which cut back on the shock humor, so he felt he needed to ramp it up for the movie.
    • There was a rap battle in the film that included a holocaust joke but it was dropped.
    • The cast originally had to stop 9/11 to curb Annabelle’s murderous tendencies, but this was deemed too controversial, as well as too similar to Family Guy’s Back To The Pilot.
    • The original plot was about Annabelle haunting the Dawson’s new house out of rebellion, rather than her taking Shinji and terrorizing the town.
    • The Moviestorm fight initially took place in a hotel instead of a nightclub.
