Trivia / XO, Kitty

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Unlike Lana Condor, who is actually fully Vietnamese but played the biracial Lara Jean, Anna Cathcart is biracial, like Kitty. She's half-white and half-Asian. However, she's half-Chinese rather than half-Korean like Kitty.
    • Peter Thurnwald just like his character Alex was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted by an Australian family.
  • Dawson Casting: Kitty is 16 in season 1. Anna Cathcart was 19 when filming wrapped for that season. All the other characters within a similar age range as Kitty are played by actors over the age of 18 as well.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Gia Kim (Yuri) and Sang-heon Lee (Min-ho) are siblings in real life. Kim is Lee's older sister. But in the show, they are not related at all. The cast revealed that Kim and Lee auditioned and were chosen for their roles separately. The casting directors didn't even know they were brother and sister.
  • The Other Darrin: Dae was played by Ho-young Jeon in To All the Boys: Always and Forever, where he and Kitty first meet. In this show, he was recast with Choi Min-young. The flashback to that scene had to be reshot with Choi as a result.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Regan Aliyah, who plays Juliana (a girl who's dating Yuri, another girl), is an out and proud lesbian in real life.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: The series effectively serves as one to the original book series, which only focuses on Lara Jean. It helps that Jenny Han, the writer of the books, is an executive producer of the series. While Lara Jean does not appear in the first season, a throwaway line by Kitty seems to imply that she and Peter are still together four years after they decided to commence on a long-distance relationship.
  • Write What You Know: Jenny Han, the creator of the show, is Korean-American.
  • Word of Gay: On TikTok, Jenny Han confirmed that Kitty is bisexual and that was always the intention.
