- Awesome, Dear Boy: Hugo Becker was very enthusiastic to play Charette, for it was a historical era and character he had very little knowledge of prior to working on the film.
- Dueling Works: Came out the same year as Ridley Scott's Napoleon, another biopic about a charismatic French military leader that came to prominence during The French Revolution. Both films start during the Reign of Terror.
- In Memoriam: The film is dedicated to the dozens of thousands of victims of the Infernal Columns during the Wars in Vendée.
- No Budget: The €3.5 million budget didn't allow for filming of battles outside of a few skirmishes, hence why the battles are given time skips.
- What Could Have Been: The film was initially conceived as a Docudrama for the Canal+ TV channel, but its producers decided to up the ante and make it a full-fledged historical film to be released theatrically.
