- Abandonware: While it can still be downloaded from the official website, it could potentially be heading this way soon. The program hasn't gotten a proper update since 2013 and while Microsoft has claimed they are striving for full compatibility for all VB6 applications like UTAU under supported Windows installations up to Windows 11, it's unclear if they will continue to do so in the future since the IDE support has already ended in 2008. It doesn't help much that the developer, Ameya, rarely updates his social media, with there often being years in-between updates. However, there's been some projects attempting to remake the program and replace it when things go haywire and modernize the UTAU experience with quality of life improvements. Some noteworthy projects are:
- the Melodia Editor (aka MelodiaSynth or Melodia Sequencer) which is web-based and developed by Khento (Status: Inactive)
- the Waltz Editor developed by Miyabishi (Status: Inactive)
- UTSU developed by Lethe (Status: Active)
- OpenUtau developed by stakira, currently has full compatibility with most UTAU voicebanks, plugins and resamplers as well as AI software like ENUNU (Status: Active)
- Sharpkey developed by Boxstar and its successor DeepVocal (Status: Active)
- SiVo, which was developed by Yuu, though it's gone through much Troubled Production due to the source code being stolen (Status: Inactive)
- Ascended Fanon: Kasane Teto, the program's most famous Utauloid, would eventually become a proper "Vocaloid" in her own right, with voice banks for her being created for the Synthesizer V AI program.
