Trivia / The Museum

• Creator Backlash: Quantum Drop dislikes his fourth turn (turn 40) in the Museum III continuity, viewing it as badly-written, filled with flat or two-dimensional POV characters, and with far too much munchkinery on his part as opposed to telling an actual story. ^note For an example of this: all three main characters are killed and resurrected as powerful intelligent undead with Game-Breaker magic, adamantine weapons and armour, then go on to kill hundreds of HFS (meant to be an endgame challenge and treated in-universe as a massive threat to adventurers) with relative ease. At few to no points are the ramifications of this on the characters or the world around them explored much, as opposed to the earlier example of Bralbaard (whose undeath is a major factor in his character and actions following his resurrection) and the later example of Moldath (who manages to be similarly overpowered while retaining meaningful characterization).
• Follow the Leader: The Museum has spawned a pair of spinoffs/imitators, most notably the currently-active Stalkmatches - the Blade of Many Hands and the short-lived The Monster Hunter Guild of Slodiakul. Both retain much of The Museum's core conceit, but they also include their own unique twists (Slodiakul emphasised hunting monsters and brought in popular mods from the community to spice things up, while Stalkmatches emphasises racking up kills with a single artefact weapon over gathering artefacts). Unusually for most cases of this trope, both were created by active contributors to the mainline Museum.
• Sequel Gap: Museum III started five real-life years after Museum II's last turn finished.
• Spiritual Antithesis: Contrasting the examples under Follow the Leader above, Endedtreasure's goal is the destruction of all artefacts in the world rather than the preservation of interesting items, with the game even being subtitled as "The Anti-Museum."
