• The Cast Show Off: If you're wondering how tabloid writer Jane L's ("The Legendary Billy B") assistant/photographer Hodie could play a mean guitar lick while coercing the ostensible Billy B to actually play his instrument, that's because Hodie is played by Andy Summers, guitarist of The Police.
• Casting Gag: Harry Hamlin as Jerry Macklin. ("The Curse")
• Keep Circulating the Tapes: A proper home video release of the entire series has yet to be made. The "Complete Collection" DVD isn't, as it only contains 30 out of the 85 episodes produced, and only from the HBO run. Other DVD releases also featured selected episodes from the show, but these are out of print.
• Playing Against Type: Darren McGavin, who usually plays heroic characters, played a silent, creepy vampire residing in "Nightshift".
• Posthumous Credit: Dean-Paul Martin (Dean Martin's kid and formerly of the band Dino, Desi, and Billy) appeared as smooth-talking vitamin salesman Chris Taylor in "Secret Ingredient", which aired in May 1987, two months after his death in a plane crash.
• You Look Familiar:
  • Shannon Tweed strutted her stuff in two episodes, playing two separate roles, as Barbara in "Videodate" from Season 2, and Dr. Rita De Roy in "Doctor's Orders" from Season 4.
  • Kirstie Alley also appears as multiple characters in separate episodes — tabloid reporter Jane L in "The Legendary Billy B", and Cloud Cuckoolander Angelica in "Out of the Night".
