Trivia / Stone Temple Pilots

  • Chart Displacement: "Between The Lines" was their only #1 on the alternative rock chart (on the mainstream one it only hit #2, while the far better-known "Plush" and "Interstate Love Song" topped the chart).
  • Promoted Fanboy: Chester Bennington had grown up as a lifelong fan of the band, and when they asked him to join after Weiland's firing, he immediately said yes.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Shangri-La-Dee-Da was originally intended by the band to be a double album, but they relented after their record label, Atlantic, expressed hesitation at the idea.
    • In 1994, the band was going to re-record "Only Dying", an early demo dating from when they were still called Mighty Joe Young, for the soundtrack of The Crow (1994). After Brandon Lee's accidental death while filming the movie, the song title and some of the lyrics started seeming unfortunate in that context; They instead licensed "Big Empty", from their newest album, Purple, for the film. The demo of the song leaked, and was eventually made a bonus track on a deluxe edition of Core.
    • "All in the Suit That You Wear" was originally going to be in the official soundtrack for Spider-Man, but was pulled at the last minute when they were unable to get it as the lead track.
    • Dean and Robert DeLeo had already been planning their The Band Minus the Face side-project Talk Show while STP's Tiny Music was still being completed, and had to choose which of the songs they were working on they'd bring to STP and which they'd use for Talk Show. According to Dean, "Big Bang Baby" could have been a Talk Show song and "Everybody Loves My Car" could have been by Stone Temple Pilots, instead of the other way around.
  • Write What You Know: "Sex Type Thing" was inspired by an ex of Scott Weiland's who was gang-raped at a party while in high school by three football players.
