Trivia / Stir of Echoes

Go To

  • Creator-Preferred Adaptation: Surprisingly, Richard Matheson, known for disowning most of adaptations of his works as being too far from the original, genuinely liked this one - this despite the screenwriters changing location and ending of the story.
  • Dueling Movies: Came out in the same year as The Sixth Sense.
  • Throw It In!: In the scene where Tom gets angry after digging in the back yard and kicks the bucket towards the wall, it was not supposed to hit and break the window. This was a "happy accident" and it could be used in the film as Kevin Bacon stayed in character and continued the scene.
  • What Could Have Been: David Koepp's original script differed from the final version such as:
    • Maggie had a brother named Philip instead of a sister named Lisa.
    • To find out what was wrong with him, Tom had an MRI scan done by a cousin of Maggie's, a neurologist named Elizabeth.
    • Tom met his wife while working as a lifeguard and his psychic abilities helped to save her from drowning.
    • Instead of accusing the Witzkys of having something to do with her sister Samantha's disappearance, Debbie was worried they were abusing their son. Tom found out she was being abused by her stepfather and chased him out of town.
    • At the end of the movie, Maggie gave birth to a girl with the same psychic abilities as the couple's son.
