• Creator Backlash: According to a couple of reports, the studio had never shown support for the development of the movie to begin with.
• Distanced from Current Events: It has been speculated that several scenes were cut from the final film, due to criticism around the film being released just four or so years after the so-called Slender Man stabbing in 2014.
• Franchise Killer: While the 2014 stabbing carried out in the character's name severely damaged the Slender Mythos' popularity, this film was essentially the final nail in the coffin. All of this, combined with the backlash against the creepypasta genre in general, cemented Slender Man as an irrelevant icon of a bygone era of internet horror.
• Missing Trailer Scene: It was said by a number of critics that several scenes from the trailers (most obviously the scene with Chloe stabbing herself in the eye) weren't in the final film. It's been speculated these scenes were cut from the film due to the resemblance to the 2014 Slender Man stabbing, but it ended up creating Plot Holes within the film itself.
