  • Franchise Killer: Through no fault of the games themselves, the franchise was effectively ended after the failure of Need for Speed: The Run led to the downsizing and eventual closure of EA Black Box's doors. It took a full decade after Skate 3's release for a new Skate title to be announced as being under development.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The first game featured The Skateboard Mag as one of two publications the player can get coverage for (the other one being Thrasher). TSM published its last issue in 2017.
    • Advertisement:
    • The in-game cell phone is the T-Mobile Sidekick 3, a re-branded Danger Hiptop 3. The Hiptop/Sidekick line of smartphones ceased production in 2010, while the Danger cloud service was discontinued in 2011.
    • One of the characters in the first and second game is Christopher "Big Black" Boykin, Rob Dyrdek's bodyguard. Big Black suffered a heart attack and passed away in 2017.
