• Ability over Appearance: Ben Schnetzer doesn't look much like Mark Ashton, but his performance drew critical acclaim.
• Fake Nationality: Nearly the entire cast, oddly enough. Almost all the Welsh characters are played by English actors (and the Welsh Gethin is played by Irishman Andrew Scott). The lead role of Mark Ashton, who was born Oop North and raised in Northern Ireland, is played by American Ben Schnetzer.
