• Similarly Named Works: There's a forum game that predates the game (having been created circa 2004) also called Pony Island about breeding virtual ponies.
• What Could Have Been: Dan originally planned to have Buer replace Asmodeus as the third core file daemon after saying "Buer" to Asmodeus and then escaping Limbo. Buer's questions would have been flat-out trolling, in contrast to Asmodeus' reliance on distraction tactics. This was eventually scrapped, although it may be introduced in a future update or DLC.
• Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: In a now-deleted video of a presentation examining the game postmortem, Daniel Mullins admitted that parts of the game's ARG were created on the fly in response to players finding "clues" that weren't actually intended, namely that reversing the "his father, pure evil" audio clip sounded similar to "a beeper, perhaps". He patched the game to add new clues and paths of the ARG (under the guise of bug fixes) in order to give players who were still looking for secrets a relatively satisfying conclusion—the "Pony Island 2: Panda Circus" cabinet, which, 2 full games and nearly a decade later, would become reality.
