Trivia / Petals on the Wind

The book provides trivia of:

  • What Could Have Been:
    • Cleo the Dog (a moderator on the Lost Angels of VCA fan forum) found the first draft of Petals on the Wind at Boston University under the title Where the Greener Grass Grows. The Brother–Sister Incest, believe it or not, is dropped early on and Cathy marries Dr. Paul, while Chris married a nurse named Sarah (see God-Created Canon Foreigner below), and Carrie married her love interest Alex and had a daughter. Jory and Bart Jr. never appear, and Cathy decides she doesn't want to be a ballerina anymore.
    • Kristy Swanson (who played Cathy in Flowers in the Attic (1987) ) claims she and Louise Fletcher (who played grandmother) were sent scripts for a potential adaptation of Petals on the Wind. Allegedly the second film would have had the grandmother remarry a much-younger man, whom Cathy seduces. Despite both Swanson and Fletcher agreeing to reprise their roles, the film never got off the ground. Swanson later said she didn't think the script was good, calling it "a real sexfest".

The TV movie provides trivia of:

  • Dawson Casting: Bailey De Young, who plays Carrie (a teenager), was twenty-five.
  • Fake American: Cathy in the TV movie is played by New Zealand actress Rose McIver.
  • God-Created Canon Foreigner: Chris' fiancee—a nurse named Sarah—did appear in an early draft of the book.
