Trivia / Moses the Lawgiver

• California Doubling: Although the Promised Land and desert scenes were shot in Israel, Rome and Morocco stood in for Egypt.
• Compilation Movie: The Mini Series was cut and edited into a two-hour-and-half movie that was released in theaters under the title ‘’Moses’’.
• Dawson Casting:
  • The Series implies that a 20-year Time Skip occurred between Moses settling down at Jethro's Tent and the Burning Bush, which could put the adult Moses as being in his late thirties or forties. Burt Lancaster was about Sixty during filming.
  • Unlike Moses, who has a younger actor to play him as a Youth, Miriam and Aaron are played from their first adult appearance by Ingrid Thulin (about Fifty-Five) and Anthony Quayle (Sixty).
  • Zigzagged for Mernefta. The Series portrays him as a young man on becoming Pharoah (historically he was in his Sixties). Laurent Terrizef was Thirty-Nine.
  • The novelization identifies Moses as being Mernefta's elder by ten years. There was a twenty-two year age gap between Burt Lancaster and Laurent Tezieff respectively.
• Fake Nationality:
  • As the Israelite sibling trio of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: American Burt Lancaster, Briton Anthony Quayle, and Swede Ingrid Thulin.
  • French Laurent Terrizef (Mernefta) and Jacques Herlin (the Court Magician) as Egyptians.
  • Greek Irene Papas as the Midian Zipporah.
  • Italians Mariangeta Melato (Bithia), Mario Ferrari (Pharaoh), Umbreto Raho (a Royal minister), and Jose Quaglio (a Royal minister) as Egyptians.
• Looping Lines: Many of the Italian and Morocco extras were dubbed. Several of the principals as well.
• Real-Life Relative: Burt Lancaster's son William portrays Moses as a young man at the time of his exile from Egypt.
• Re-Cut: There are three versions:
  • The Italian Broadcast, Six-hours-and-half divided in Seven Episodes.
  • The English Broadcast, Five-hours divided in Six Episodes.
  • The Compilation Movie released in Theaters, Two-hours-and-half.
