- Box Office Bomb: Budget, $13 million. Box office, $9,532,895. It was an Acclaimed Flop however, and it would later do better on television and video.
- Fake American: Simon Fenton (Gene) is British, while Lisa Jakub (Sandra) is Canadian.
- Hostility on the Set: In her memoir, Lisa Jakub stated that she had her first kiss ever while filming this movie. Her scene partner Simon Fenton apparently did not like Lisa, which made shooting the five takes of the kissing scene very awkward and uncomfortable to get through.
- Uncredited Role: William Schallert, Robert Cornthwaite and Kevin McCarthy are all uncredited for their respective roles as Dr. Leonard Grabow, Dr. Flankon and General Ankrum in MANT!
- What Could Have Been: The original screenplay by Jerico Stone was very different than the final product. According to Joe Dante, Jerico's take was more of a fantasy. It was set in an old movie theater at a matinee, and the movie Mant! is the movie that's showing. The characters are all the kids in the neighborhood and it's all about how they imagine that the theater is a sort of phantasmagoria of scary matrons, vampire projectionists, things like that. At the end of the movie the kids, now grown up, have a reunion at the theater only to find it's become a video store.
