Trivia / Mario Party 3

Go To

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: This game didn’t see a re-release of any kind for over two decades, likely due to Game Guy's minigames going against some countries' laws against simulated gambling. It was finally re-released in October 2023 as a part of the Nintendo Switch Online’s library of N64 games.
  • Manual Misprint:
    • The back of the box suggests that Daisy and Waluigi are unlockable characters, but they aren't. As descibed below, it's highly likely they were going to be unlockable via Story Mode and the decision to have them playable from the start in Party Mode was a very late decision.
    • The manual states that Thwomps have an attack power of 2, but they don’t actually have any attack power.
  • Meme Acknowledgement: Waluigi gets the spotlight on the thumbnail for the Nintendo Switch Online trailer, likely as a reference to his popularity.
  • No Dub for You: Unlike the previous game, Mario Party 3 was not localized into Italian.
  • The Original Darrin: Charles Martinet reprises his roles of Luigi and Wario in this game. Interestingly, Wario’s voice clips were lowered in pitch seemingly to match Thomas Spindler’s portrayal of him. In addition, Jen Taylor, who previously voiced Peach in Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, replaces Asako Kozuki. She also replaces Jessica Chisum, Daisy's voice actress in Mario Tennis, as Daisy.
  • Swan Song: This was the final Mario game released on the Nintendo 64 in Japan, North America, and Europe.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The back of the game's box suggests that Daisy and Waluigi were originally going be unlocked via Story Mode. Evidence of this can be found in-game via hacking. If forced into the character selection menu with an uninitialized save, Daisy and Waluigi will be un-selectable, replaced with question marks. Additionally, the Debug Menu for Save Data has an option to set Daisy and Waluigi to locked or unlocked state. This suggests them being playable from the start was decided very late in development.
    • A model and map icon for a Snufit from Super Mario 64 have been found, suggesting it was going to be a partner in Duel Mode.
