Trivia / Margarita with a Straw

• Dawson Casting: Leila is supposed to be in her late teens/early twenties when the film begins (it was never said precisely, but she's a college student). Her actress at the time was around 29 to 30.
• Fake Nationality: Leila is played by French-Indian actress Kalki Koechlin, who was born in Indian to French parents. In the film however she's just plain Indian, and looks absolutely nothing like her on-screen parents (played by ethnic Indian actors). Khunam meanwhile is Pakistani-Bangladeshi, played by the Indian actress Sayani Gupta.
