- Darkhorse Casting: The main trio are played by up and coming actors, with Ruby Stokes having previously had a small role as Francesca Bridgerton and Ali Hadji-Heshmati playing Warren on Bad Education, while this is Cameron Chapman's first role. On the other hand, there are some more recognizable adult actors like Morven Christie, Nigel Planer, Ivanno Jeremiah, Luke Treadaway, Jeff Rawle and Sandra Hugget.
- Saved from Development Hell: Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures snapped up the rights to make a film of The Screaming Staircase before the novel was even published and become Illumination's very first live-action film. This did not end up happening. Meanwhile, Joe Cornish, who serves at the showrunner for the TV series, was interested from the start, but got in too late. He waited patiently and ultimately snapped up the rights after they reverted back to Stroud, Illumination and Universal never getting anywhere with the project.
