  • Executive Meddling: Many examples, as detailed in this thread with responses from the game's developers.
  • Screwed by the Network/Lawyers: An unfortunate example of this trope caused by three factors. First, the game's publisher, Edge of Reality, quietly closed their doors in 2017 due to losing money, leaving the game in the hands of its developers. They, who were already losing money, eventually stopped updating the PC version of the game for years to focus on the PlayStation 4 port, as it was more profitable and the income from the servers were the only things helping them keep running. The game, while still declining, still managed to hold on for another year... that was, until the General Data Protection Regulation was signed into the UK law in May 2018, which has major punishments for those who don't comply. With already a lack of funds and resources—plus the cloud servers used for the game also winding up shutting down—the developers were unable to help keep the game compliant under the then-new law (much of Loadout's players at the time came from the UK), and thus had no choice but to close its servers for good.
