Trivia / Lex Luger

  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • In WCW, had to turn face after Sting suffered a knee injury trying to climb the cage to attack the Horsemen at Clash of the Champions X on February 6, 1990.
    • In WWE, his face turn and mega-push in 1993 was as a result of Hulk Hogan's abrupt departure from the company.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Used John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" at the start of his All-American gimmick in the WWF.
  • Romance on the Set: He dated Miss Elizabeth during their last years in WCW and were living together when she died, though the relationship was turbulent; Elizabeth died of a drug overdose only ten days after Luger had been arrested for Domestic Abuse against her.
  • Screwed by the Network: He's long been considered one of the biggest underachievers in wrestling relative to how hard he was pushed. He never beat Flair for the NWA or WCW World Heavyweight Titles, and he failed at beating Yokozuna at both SummerSlam 93 and at WrestleMania X. In terms of Flair, he was blocked due to political infighting involving Flair, Dusty Rhodes and Jim Herd. He was a two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, though neither of those wins really amounted to anything. He defeated Barry Windham for the vacant title, due to Herd firing Flair shortly before the show, at WCW The Great American Bash 91 in July, and lost it to Sting in February at WCW SuperBrawl II. He defeated Hogan for the title on the August 4, 1997 Nitro...and lost it back five days later at the Road Wild 97 PPV. While beating Hogan was a veritable Awesome Moment of Crowning by its own right, it ultimately accomplished nothing, since WCW was supposed to have been building to Sting defeating Hogan for the title. It's entirely possible that this contributed to his general lack of effort by the late 1990s.
  • Throw It In!: 'Total Package', which Flair pretty much coined in his promos, was a reference to being able to beat people in the ring and look good to the ladies while he was out partying.
