Trivia / Ken Akamatsu

  • Teasing Creator: Especially involving the relationship entanglements in Negima, which eventually led to it having its own Ship Tease page.
  • Writer Revolt:
    • Akamatsu wanted to create a shonen fighting series, the publisher wanted another harem comedy from him a la Love Hina. So he penned a harem comedy but made sure to coat it with loads of magical elements, making it a lot more detailed than it would've ever needed to be (see Shown Their Work on Creator page)... so he could use those elements to slowly but sure turn Negima! into that shonen fighting series he wanted to do in the first place, sealing the turn with the appearance of a certain white-haired villainous boy. He clearly tricked the publisher, but gets away with it since not only those harem elements are still a part of his universe — complete with hints that Love Hina itself is set in the same world — but Negima! itself has become a huge hit in its own right.
    • Upon learning about a new law designed to curb piracy and not being convinced that it does anything except hand publishers extra control over the rights of authors and their works, Akamatsu promptly nuked Negima! in one swift stroke to prevent the rights to it from being taken from his control. He then got started on a brand new series called UQ Holder!, with the main characters being an immortal blonde vampire teacher and her black-haired ward/student. Then the vampire's true name and appearance was revealed to match that of a similar character from Negima!, followed by more characters being borrowed from that series in addition to even further world-building that would've fit into its universe... until finally, over a hundred chapters in, he redrew an iconic Negima! image as the cover to one of his chapters, with text including "Ken Akamatsu did it again" — officially dropping all pretense and codifying UQ Holder! as the sequel to Negima!.
