- What Could Have Been: In 1940, Orson Welles began filming an adaptation of Conrad's Heart of Darkness. The filming was done from the first-person point of view of Marlow, in keeping with the novella, so that Marlow himself was never to appear on camera (except perhaps his hands, lower body, and reflection).
