Trivia / Guardians of the Galaxy (2021)

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite the game's overall positive reception, its sales were so poor that it — along with and due to the association with the similarly underwhelming performance of Marvel's Avengers — played a big role in prompting Square Enix to sell off Eidos Montreal along with all their remaining western studios. That said, the praise for the game has been generally positive, and also found a new batch of players when the game was given away for a week on the Epic Games Store.
  • Permanent Placeholder: Senior Audio Director Steve Szczepkowski wrote and recorded the song "Space Riders With No Name," expecting his vocals to be replaced later on. However, when the creative director heard it he decided to keep him as the singer and Szczepkowski went on to write and record the other nine songs in the Star-Lord album.
  • Pre-Order Bonus: Pre-ordering the game granted an early unlock of five outfits based on how the Guardians of the Galaxy looked in the comics before the movie came out.
  • Word of God: It was stated by Eidos Montreal shortly after the announcement of the game that Guardians of the Galaxy is not in the same continuity as Marvel's Avengers, despite Square Enix publishing both games.
