• Completely Different Title: The film's French title is Macho, to emphasize its Macho Latino protagonist.
• Fake Nationality: Maria de Medeiros is Portuguese, and her character Marta is Spanish.
• Inspiration for the Work: Director Bigas Luna said the inspiration for the story came from an imposter who usurped his identity to eat in his favorite restaurant. The man was a showoff who dressed expensively and had a Rolex watch on his wrist, and upon observing him and seeing him cry at one point Luna had compassion for him, as it felt as if he was a "lost child".
