Trivia / Gloom (Amiga)

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: Gloom 3 is essentially a Total Conversion of Gloom Deluxe developed by Alpha Software rather than Black Magic Software (who at the time have abandoned the series as well as the Amiga market in entirely), and Alpha were able to get permission from the publisher Guildhall to use the Gloom name for a commercial release.
  • Dueling Games: The game came out in a year that saw a handful of other attempts at bringing a Doom-like First-Person Shooter onto the Amiga, which also includes the likes of Fears and Alien Breed 3D.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!: The game samples a lot of sounds from Aliens. Many screams come from that movie, the item pickup sound is the pump of Hicks's shotgun, the mecha and door sounds are also derived from there. The game may as well be called "Wierzbowski dies a lot".
  • One-Book Author: Counting the original Gloom and Deluxe as a single game, Gloom was Black Magic Software's only game developed by the team.note
  • Permanent Placeholder: In The One magazine's preview of the game, the programmer admited the game's name started out as a joke, and while he did consider some proper titles like Gorefest '95 and Bloodbath they would up sticking with Gloom as they got used to it.
