Trivia / Father Ted S 1 E 5 And God Created Women

Go To

  • Corpsing: Narrowly avoided when Mrs. Doyle lists off vulgar turns of phrase in Polly's books. After Ted escorts her out, she calls through the door "'Ride me sideways', was another one!" This was unscripted, and Dermot Morgan is visibly trying his hardest not to lose it.
  • Creator Backlash: Graham Linehan was pleased with the episode, though Arthur Mathews felt that the storyline about a priest's discomfort with a woman coming into the community was too much like what a conventional sitcom would do.
  • Throw It In!: Mrs Doyle recites a long list of profanities which she has read in a steamy novel, supposedly to demonstrate how offensive she found it. The last one, just as Ted ushers her out of the room and slams the door, was "'Ride me sideways!' - that was another one!" That was an ad-lib by Pauline McLynn, which was left in, though the scene had to be ended immediately afterwards as Dermot Morgan promptly burst out laughing.
  • What Could Have Been: In an early draft of the script, the Thunderbolt and Lightfoot reference was more explicit, with Tom opening the back of his car to find rabbits.
  • Write What You Know: Ted's awkward repeated meetings with Polly as they both leave the book shop was inspired by the writers' experience of continually meeting people at The BBC.
