Trivia / Fantasy Football League

Go To

  • Channel Hop: From The BBC to ITV, post-1996. And then onto Sky as a result of the 2022 reboot.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: A few VHS tapes of the show were released for general sale during its mid-90s heyday (with names like Fantasy Football Video, Fantasy Football League 2: The Glory Years, etc). The show has never been available on DVD. Nowadays, some episodes can be found on YouTube.
  • Life Imitates Art: The "it's coming home" refrain from "Three Lions" was very quickly adopted as a chant by England fans at Euro 96, and is used in with some variation in crowd chants to this day ("we're going up", "you're going down", etc) with the original words coming out whenever England start to perform better than expected at an international tournament — which, given the inherent pessimism with which English fans invariably approach international tournaments as a counter-balance to the jingoism displayed by the tabloids, tends to mean whenever England do reasonably well at an international tournament (at the 2018 World Cup, England's run to the semi-finals led to "Three Lions" not only re-entering the UK singles chart, but getting to #1 again). Despite occasional accusations of arrogance levelled against English fans for doing this, it's also become popular with fans from other countries — Italian fans at the 2021 European Championship final (against England, at Wembley) changed the words to "it's coming Rome", which English fans found to be Actually Pretty Funny.
    • On a less positive note, the mockery of Jason Lee on the show quickly translated to abuse being chanted at Lee during games.
  • Sleeper Hit: Despite being initially broadcast in the Friday late-night slot on BBC2, the show became popular among football fans (to the point of being required viewing) thanks to word of mouth.
