Trivia / Elliott Smith

Go To

  • Author Existence Failure: Smith died before the release of "From A Basement On The Hill", which was initially planned as a double album.
  • Breakup Breakout: He was originally in an indie rock band called Heatmiser, who broke up just after he became recognized as a solo artist. Elliott Smith eventually became a household name in the world of independent music. Heatmiser? Not so much.
  • What Could Have Been: Neil Gust, the other guitarist/lead vocalist in Heatmiser, last spoke with Elliott Smith in 2002, and Smith had expressed interest in making another Heatmiser album. As it stands, the closest thing to a Heatmiser reunion was "Who's Behind The Door?", a song by Gust's project No. 2 that featured Elliott Smith on backing vocals and surfaced on a 2011 homelessness benefit album called Live From Nowhere Near You Vol. 2.
    • Eliott Smith was going to take on the Pop-Star Composer role for the film Thumbsucker - In the end, the three recordings he completed were used in the final product, with the rest of the soundtrack provided by The Polyphonic Spree.
