Trivia / Edge of Eternity

  • What Could Have Been: Early materials promised a completely different game from what was ultimately released:
    • The Pre-Alpha version is nearly unrecognizable as the same game:
      • The setting was much more Earth-like, compared to the final game's world being more strange and alien.
      • The battle system lacked the Nexus grid. The battle menu also looked more normal, instead of each choice being bound to a different button.
      • Daryon used his fists instead of a sword, and had red hair, while Selene (or rather, Selen) used a flute instead of a staff to cast magic.
    • The Kickstarter page, as Kickstarter projects tend to be infamous for, promises something very different from what was released:
      • The Corrosion was originally the Metal Plague, a disease that inflicts Unwilling Roboticization instead of zombie-like Body Horror.
      • Many characters were different: Ysoris was two characters: an alcoholic former nobleman named Fallon, and a girl named Eline who survived the corrosion. Selen(e) was the princess of a group of nomads instead of Daryon's adoptive sister.
      • Each character would have had at least one Guardian Entity they could summon, with more powerful summons being usable by having multiple characters combine their power.
      • Nekaroo breeding was in the works, similar to Final Fantasy VII's Chocobo breeding. In the full game, this was simplified to just having one Nekaroo who's given to you in chapter 2. Nekaroos also looked a lot more like cat-kangaroo hybrids, having only one tail and using only their rear legs for movement.
      • Weapon crafting was more complex: you crafted components (such as a sword's hilt, guard, and blade) and combined them, while adding extra items to improve the end result's stats.
      • The plot would have been less linear, with side quests influencing the story. Since even games with the biggest of budgets struggle to implement such a feature, it's not surprising that this indie game dropped it for a more linear story.
