• …But I Play One on TV: Freddy Frinton did not drink. Ever. He played a scarily convincing drunkard, though.
• Corpsing: When James starts drunkenly imitating Mr. Winterbottom on the second course, you can see May Warden desperately trying to hold her laughter.
• No Export for You: On several occasions, The BBC asked German television for copies of Dinner for One, and received it. What they were doing with these copies is anyone's guess as they never aired it. It is available on YouTube as well as on the website of ARD, the national broadcaster whose regional station that produced the short is a member of, without country blocks and finally made its debut at a British comedy festival in late 2018, fifty-five years after it was originally produced. It made its UK television debut that New Year's Eve, on Sky Arts.
• One-Take Wonder: Both actors had done the role so many times, they did the entire performance for German TV in one take.
• Throw It In!: James constant stumbling over the tiger's head was conceived when Freddy Frinton accidentally fell over the head one evening, while touring Britain with the sketch. The audience's reaction persuaded him to keep it and turn it into a Running Gag.
