• Acclaimed Flop: The film was met with positive reviews from critics, who by and large found the plot to be very middle of the road, but had nothing but praise for the visuals, tone, and performances, with many of them especially highlighting Don Cheadle's performance as Mouse. Cheadle would later go on to be nominated for several awards for Best Supporting Actor in critic circles and even winning quite a few of them. In the years following its release, the film has gone on to have a legacy as as one of the pivotal Neo-Noir films of the 1990s. During its original release however, it flopped at the box office.
