• Executive Meddling: Basically, the reason why this book exists. Tony Isabella just wanted to use Iceman and Angel, but editor Len Wein insisted that there be five people on the team.
• Follow the Leader: The reason for the Executive Meddling, as the book was reshaped to resemble Marvel's existing successful team books like The Avengers, The Defenders, and Uncanny X-Men.
• Mid-Development Genre Shift: Isabella's initial pitch was a road trip book with Iceman and Angel. Len Wein insisted that the book have five people on the team (even though there wasn't really a "team" at all), so the book became a standard superhero team book set in Los Angeles, but with characters nobody was using. It...didn't work.
