  • Hostility on the Set: Christina Ricci and Lance Acord both had difficult working relationships with Vincent Gallo resulting in Gallo publicly disparaging them after the film's release, calling Ricci a "puppet" and overweight, and claims Acord brought nothing to the film's innovative cinematography and was simply a "button pusher". Anjelica Huston also did not get along with him, and Gallo claimed Huston caused the film to be turned down by the Cannes Film Festival.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Mickey Rourke was going through tough times with both career and finances. According to an interview Rourke stated that Vincent Gallo offered him a small part on the movie and paid him with a paper bag containing $100,000.
  • Throw It In!: Ben Gazzara ad-libbed the part where he shoves his face between Christina Ricci's breasts at the dinner table.
  • Troubled Production: Vincent Gallo made the movie he wanted to make, and got good reviews, but did not make many friends doing so.
    • Before production started, Gallo decided he wanted to shoot on the E6 film stock used mainly for color transparencies (i.e., what we used to call "slides"). This can be done but it is very a tricky process, as well as costly—it put a real strain on the film's extremely low budget. The original cinematographer balked, so Gallo fired him. Who did Gallo decide to replace him with? Himself. Yup ... Gallo, already the writer, star, and director, was ready to add "photographed by ..." to his credits as well. At the last minute the bond company stepped in and told him to hire a real cinematographer. Lance Acord, who had never shot a feature, was hired.
    • Acord was credited by some critics with the gimmick of putting characters' flashbacks or other interior imaginings in small insets in the shot. Gallo not only insisted that was his idea, but that Acord had brought absolutely nothing to the shoot.
    • Christina Ricci was so upset by the way Gallo treated her on set, as well as remarks he made about her basically being his "puppet" when the film came out, that she has reportedly said she will never work with him again. For good measure, several years later, Gallo made remarks about how fat she was at the time.
    • Anjelica Huston was also pretty disturbed by Gallo's antics as well, and would probably be just as happy not making another film with him.
    • Kevin Corrigan, who had originally been hired and fired by Gallo and was then brought back when his replacement had to back out, also was so embarrassed by his portrayal of the mentally deficient Goon that he asked to have his name taken out of the credits.
  • Uncredited Role: Kevin Corrigan originally turned down the role of Goon because he was uncomfortable with it. He later changed his mind and asked for the role back. Gallo had hired another actor to play the role but fired him and re-hired Corrigan. After filming, Corrigan was still uncomfortable with his performance and asked to be uncredited.
