- Keep Circulating the Tapes:
- The Broken Movie has never seen an official release and was originally seen as a bootleg in the 1990s. In the mid-2000s, an anonymous source, heavily implied to be Reznor himself, leaked a DVD iso as a torrent. It can still be found in certain areas of the internet.
- Reznor had officially released the movie on Vimeo in 2013, but removed due to the content less than a day later.
- Pop-Culture Urban Legends: A common rumor/theory is that the unidentified actor playing the cop in the "Gave Up" section of the Broken movie is Robert Patrick, brother of then-live guitarist Richard Patrick; less commonly, Richard himself is suggested to be the actor. This has never been confirmed or denied by either Patrick brother, or anyone in the band or who worked on the movie.
- Troubled Production: Trent Reznor was forced to record the album in secret under various locations and fake band names to avoid getting in trouble with his original label TVT Records.
