Trivia / Broken Arrow (1996)

• Actor-Inspired Element: It was John Travolta's idea to play the Deakins character as "bigger than life."
• Awesome, Dear Boy: John Travolta loved working on this film and often wears a leather flight jacket with his character's B-3 bomber patch prominently stitched on the chest.
• Blooper: When Hale wakes up in the desert after being forcefully ejected from the B3, the sun is just coming up. However, when Terry then confronts him, the sun is suddenly high in the sky, making the intercuts jarring.
• Cast the Runner-Up: John Travolta was given the choice of playing either Deakins or Hale. He chose the villain Deakins.
• Dyeing for Your Art: Samantha Mathis dyed her hair red for the film.
• No Stunt Double: Christian Slater did almost all of his own stunts. Howie Long did all his own stunts.
• Release Date Change: The film missed its original December 1995 release date when special effects work could not be completed on time. The film was released the following February.
• Spared by the Cut: Kelly was originally supposed to be killed off earlier in the picture, but when Fox execs saw the dailies and liked his performance, his role was quickly expanded so he could be in the whole movie.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Halle Berry was rejected for the role of Terry because the casting people didn't think a black person would be believable as a park ranger! Helen Hunt was offered the role, but she turned it down in favour of Twister. Jennifer Aniston and Lauren Holly were also considered.
  • John Woo originally wanted Hale to die.
