Trivia / Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: DJ Cyber uses Toronto slang in some of his lines as a playable character, which was inspired by YAPICO's own use of it. He mentions during a livestream of the game that he thought of Cyber as the type of guy who would use slang more often when he's enjoying himself, and included a couple of his own interjections near the end of his recording session; the "Hoooly!" line when he pulls a trick was one he didn't think would make it in.
  • Descended Creator: Development leader Dion Koster provided mocap for some of the dances in-game, in addition to his normal role as project head. He also was the artist for several of the unlockable graffiti tags.
  • Dummied Out:
    • Faux has an S-size tag and costumes like the rest of the Bomb Rush Crew, but because he dies before either are found, they go unused.
    • Files relating to the DOT EXE crew reveal extra textures for 10-ball and 14-ball themed members.
  • Production Posse: Curtis Arnott, Carlos Ramirez, Robert Foster, Michelle Marie and Alexander Katnik previously did voice work for Team Reptile on Lethal League and its sequel.
  • Promoted Fanboy: 2 Mello, an indie musician with a love of Jet Set Radio, had one of his songs from his Sounds of Tokyo-To Future album, "I Wanna Kno", featured in this game.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was originally conceived with more of a focus on freerunning rather than the mix of freerunning, rollerskating, skateboarding, and BMX. Some of the earlier trailers show grinding on rails with bare shoes, which isn't possible in the final game (you'll automatically switch to your movestyle when grinding). As stated in one of devlead Dion Koster's blog posts, this was a move to emphasize more street culture beyond just freerunning.
    • The first official trailer appears to use a hovering, coin-like crosshair with a spraycan in it to indicate graffiti spots. The final game uses an oily, golden outline applied to the surface itself to do so.
    • The official gameplay trailer seems to feature two additional gameplay elements that didn't make it to release: a yellow meter above the blue boost meter that appears to gauge speed, and a "RUSH" meter in the top left that fills when doing stylish moves and decays over time. It also shows Devil Theory, wearing blue outfits instead of red, racing the player as a group in Millenium Mall (Devil Theory only hangs out at Pyramid Island, none of the rival gangs start races in that part of the mall, and none of the races involve more than one other opponent), Red chatting with Vinyl at Mataan in a way that suggests that she wouldn't be recruited by that point in the game, and white police turrets (they're a dark navy in the final game to match the rest of the police's colors).
    • Several pieces of pre-release art by Dion Koster show characters with slightly different appearances, most notably Vinyl: she has brown hair, more prominent lips and what seems to be a wrist-mounted launcher that uses vinyl records as ammo akin to DJ Cyber's razor records.
