• God Never Said That: For quite a while there was a misconception going around the internet that Nakatani did not view Bloom into You as a yuri story. This likely stems from interviews with Nakatani where she stated that she didn't want the fact that Yuu and Touko are both girls to be the central conflict of their relationship, and that when she started off writing doujins, she just liked writing about the relationships between girls and did not originally intend them to be yuri doujinshi. However, in the same interview, she stated that Bloom into You was conceptualized and serialized as a story where "No matter how you look at it, it’s yuri.”
• Sleeper Hit: The anime is a minor but significant case. Fans of the manga were on their toes since previous anime adaptations of famous yuri manga proved lackluster at best (Citrus) or disastrous at worst (NTR: Netsuzou Trap), and non-readers didn't know what to expect of it. In the end, the anime's polished production, directing and soundtrack made it one of the most critically acclaimed series of the Fall 2018 season. Its bluray sales (almost 4000 copies in its first week) are nowhere near juggernauts like Zombieland Saga but still nothing to scoff at for an adaptation of a hitherto fairly niche series.
