- Post-Release Retitle: The film was reissued in 1950 as March of the Wooden Soldiers, with about 5 minutes cut. It's this version that's aired for decades in TV syndication and what most people are familiar with.
- What Could Have Been:
- Originally, Laurel and Hardy would have played Simple Simon and the Pieman. Incidentally, the Silly Symphony short "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood" has them playing just that.
- The original ending would have had Barnaby shot out of a cannon, and his body blasted to pieces, which would have spelled The End. Hal Roach found that suggestion too gruesome.
- Younger Than They Look: Henry Kleinbach was 22 years old when he played Silas Barnaby.
- An unusually colorized version was released on VHS in 1991. Every frame was hand-tinted.
