  • Descended Creator: Marins wasn't going to play Coffin Joe, but none of the actors lived up to his standards of what the character should be like, so he assumed the role,
  • No Budget: The production was made under extremely limited costs. They only had 13 film cans to shoot, when a movie of that length usually recquired 70 to 80... and one of them was even stolen. Plus, in order to make the woods for the climax, some members had to saw trees off a Square from São Paulo, and barely escaped being caught by the police.
  • One-Take Wonder: The first sequence on the bar was filmed with a single take, with no cuts. Many sequences were filmed in a single take due to to the limited film available (see No Budget).
  • Reality Subtext: Like Coffin Joe, Marins also had a wife who wouldn't bear a child in the last few years, and this almost ended his marriage, especially after a woman he had a long-term affair with gave birth to his first child... then his wife got pregnant too and things became tricky for him.
    • A scene where Coffin Joe tells Antônio they'll have to reschedule their plans for a fishing day. Antônio's death was supposed to happen while they were fishing, but it had to be pulled off due to budget limitations.
  • Real-Life Relative: The widow who appears burying her late husband in the first scene and the bartender from the bar Coffin Joe frequents were played by José Mojica Marins' parents, Carmen and Antônio Marins.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: Coffin Joe's Beard of Evil was added to the character because Marins had been growing his (because of a promise to God).
