Trivia / Ascendance of a Bookworm

  • No Export for You: The physical books and other merchandise sold by TO Books come with exclusive short stories. While some of them were published in the Short Story Collection 1, the rest is otherwise unobtainable and the English publisher could not get the license for these stories.
  • Throw It In!: Damuel's name was meant to be Samuel, but Miya Kazuki hit D instead of S by accident and just rolled with it. The translator at J-Novel Club asked the author if she wanted him to correct it in the translation, but she requested that he keep it the same.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Myne was originally going to make paper alongside Tuuli and Freida, but after realizing how much manual work that was going to entail, Kazuki changed gears and created Lutz instead.
    • The roles of Bezewanst and Ferdinand in one of the drafts were reversed (Miya Kazuki lay out all possible routes for the characters she can think of). In the Bezewanst route, Ferdinand would have been antagonistic towards Myne and Bezewanst would have acted like the kindly grandfather he looks like. But Kazuki couldn't think of a possible way to get Bezewanst to win, thus ditching that route like many others.
    • The author originally planned to write a chapter from Ferdinand's point of view, where he finds out the truth about Arno's personality and that he deliberately sabotaged Fran, which could have ended with Myne dying. She stopped in the middle of writing it, as she felt too uncomfortable about Ferdinand's terrifying reaction, so instead she wrote the chapter from Arno's view and for the light novel release made it clearer that Ferdinand had him killed off-screen.
  • Word of God: Miya Kazuki often responds to questions about her story on narou or twitter. The most interesting ones are compiled in the official fanbooks, which are meant to be read after the reader has read up to a certain point in the story.
