Trivia / ...And Your Name Is Jonah

Go To

  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: All the deaf characters in the movie - Jonah, the little kids at the deaf school, the deaf club his parents attend, and the students at the sign language-friendly school he attends at the end - are played by real deaf people.
  • Science Marches On: At the time the film came out, it was widely believed that a deaf child allowed to use sign language would become unable to read lips and speak, and thus be unable to function in a hearing world. It is now known that the earlier a child is exposed to language, the better, and knowing sign language increases a child's chances of gaining functional speech later on.
