Trivia / Afterlife SMP

• Blooper:
  • In the middle of Shelby and Joey's confrontation with Meghan, Joey's mic breaks while trying to intimidate Meghan, causing them to briefly pause the scene to remark on this.
  • While confronting Gem as The Grim Reaper, Joey gets attacked by a Zombie, interrupting his monologue. This is naturally lampshaded.
• Real-Life Relative: Joel and Lizzie's content creator counterparts are married, much like their characters.
• Serendipity Writes the Plot:
  • The Vampire-origin originally burned in the sun, but during testing, it was discovered that this made the game nigh-unplayable. The burning debuff was removed, and later re-introduced once a feature was added that let Vampires use umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. The in-universe explanation is that Vampire Scott pissed off the gods by killing an angel, and was subsequently cursed to catch fire whenever he stepped into the sunlight.
  • Jimmy's third death was caused by server lag, which unfortunately does count as a death in the ALSMP books even though it was beyond Jimmy's control.
• Similarly Named Works:
  • This series unintentionally shares a name with an ongoing vanilla Minecraft server, and this is acknowledged by the content creators themselves — from Lizzie's video description:
    Due to a massive oversight on our part, we have accidentally named this series after an already existing long-running vanilla SMP called Afterlife SMP 😬 We know this could unfortunately cause some disruption to their server and for that we are extremely sorry.

  • This later results in a gag at the end of Lizzie's perspective of the series, as the epilogue shows her arriving in the "real" Afterlife, i.e. this similarly-named server.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Since members of the Afterlife SMP are allowed three rerolls in total if they receive an origin they don't want, this causes for many alterations on how life on the ALSMP could have gone.
    • Meghan originally spawned as the Phantom origin, but rerolled because its functions were broken (i.e. she didn't have intangibility and it would cause her to suffocate in a wall), most likely due to the mod not being adapted for Minecraft 1.18. However, her first reroll caused her to end up as a Giant, which prompted a second reroll since Seapeekay was already a Giant. She became a Truffle after all of that, and that's what she stayed as for the rest of her first life.
    • Several players have received origins that they didn't like/want, but none of them seem to have considered or remembered that they could have just rerolled. The most glaring offenders of this are Gravital Seapeekay and Inchling Jimmy, who outright kill themselves to get a new origin instead of rerolling, thus wasting one of their respective lives.
  • After losing her second life by accidentally flying into a tree, Shelby reveals she originally had a plan to have her, as a Birb, fly into her greenhouse and die that way as a nod to the fact birds can't see glass. Unfortunately for her, the tree beat her greenhouse to the punch, and she could only roll with it.
  • When Joel got the Fairyborn origin, he planned to do a bit with Jimmy to reference The Fairly OddParents!, but unfortunately he died to a Drowned before they got to do it.
  • In Scott's finale, he reveals he intended to steal items from other people as a Fox in his final life, but he loses that final life before he could act on that plan.
• Word of Gay: Shelby has confirmed that all characters she has played are asexual (like she is in real life), which extends to ALSMP!Shelby being canonically ace as well.
