  • "Free Fallin'" has a melancholy feel to it, as the boy in the song longs for the girl he broke up with.
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I'm gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for a while...
  • The lyrics to "American Girl," about a young woman coping with broken promises, while standing alone on a balcony on a cold night. There's a reason why people listening to the song think she's Driven to Suicide.
And for one desperate moment there
He crept back in her memory
    God it's so painful
    Something that's so close
And still so far out of reach...

  • As a tribute to him after his passing, a capacity crowd at the Florida Gators game on October 7, 2017 sang "I Won't Back Down" together between the third and fourth quarters. The response was so strong that it has now become a stadium tradition that occurs at every home game.
  • The recently uploaded demo version of Wildflowers and the accompanying never-before-seen footage of Tom Petty is truly sad and heartbreaking to see, especially seeing a accompanying footage of Petty on there. He seems....so happy and relaxed.
