Book Two
Bodkin's Love Epiphany when he worries that he's falling in love with Wish, only she seems interested in Xar. The narration notes how much his heart hurts.
It's revealed Sychorax and Encanzo were Star-Crossed Lovers, due to him saving her. They were planning to run away together, until Sychorax received a prophecy that if they married, the witches would return. She took a potion to kill their love and broke up with him via a "Dear John" Letter.
Book Three
It's revealed that Caliburn was the wizard who helped Sychorax with her anti-love potion. He was forced to reincarnate as a bird as punishment from the droods for stealing their tears.
The Kingwitch manages to possess Squejoos and Xar. Though Bodkin snaps Xar out of it, they have to watch helplessly as Squeejoos is compelled to fly to their enemy and cries for help in between his Broken Record chant.
