- The whole subplot about Maggie, and especially her goodbye letter. The poor literacy seen in said letter just adds to the heart-wrenching effect.
- The sequel Eye of the Camera brings some relief to Phil and the readers, as it shows an alive, well and grown-up Maggie.
- The group of elderly men helplessly wondering why no one's sent for Captain America when Galactus is making his first attack on Earth. One of them asks in seeming disbelief:"I seen the man fight one time. He'll straighten it out - I seen him. Just find the man."
- Turns into a Heartwarming Moment when you realize just how much Captain America is loved by the world, as the ultimate symbol of the Allies on World War II, alongside the core members-Bucky, the Torch, Toro and Namor.
- Gwen Stacy's death. Not only is the issue mainly focused on Phil befriending her while trying to clear Spider-Man's name when he's accused of killing her father, not only is it revealed that she had forgiven Spidey for the supposed crime (she seemingly died believing the accusation in the original comics), not only does Phil come to see her as the personification of everything the superheroes were trying to protect, but her death is what utterly destroys Phil's faith in the Marvels and leads him to become sick of all the attention around them.
