When there are sad moments, they can be really sad.
- In the second part of "Chicken", Yellow, having adopted and formed a bond with a chicken, has to send it back up to the surface after it causes problems for the other insects. He tries to make it leave, but the Chicken doesn't understand at first, causing Yellow to run off crying. Eventually, the chicken catches on and they have a last tearful goodbye hug. The chicken then flies to the sky, leaving Yellow to cry some more. But to Yellow's surprise, the chicken leaves more eggs for Yellow to take care of.
- In the second-season episode "Hide and Seek", it starts out as a usual episode, when Yellow hides in the bed. However, as Red is unable to find him (and Yellow tries to stay in his hiding place, despite sneaking out to get food to stay alive), things start getting more depressing as time passes, and Red and Yellow grow more longing for each other. Eventually, Yellow forfeits the game and the two happily unite.
- Many may consider "Mayfly" to be one of the saddest episodes, if not ''the'' saddest episode of Larva. As Red and Mayfly started building a relationship, due to the mayfly's extremely short life span, Mayfly dies the next day. It gets to the point where Red is about to commit suicide. Luckily, the 3 spirits of the mayflies stop him from going ahead with it.
- The episode "New Friend" takes Yellow's and Red's friendship to a serious level when Yellow starts hanging out with a teddy bear.
- "Lala Island" has to be the most depressing episode up to date.
- The very ending of "Booby's Love" is a major gut punch for the poor bird. The egg he was led to believe has been layed by the ducky tube he loves hatches into a turtle while he's aggressively fighting Red & Yellow and Chuck over it. Booby, momentarily confused about the truth, smiles widely at his adoptive child...until he sees a much larger turtle in the ocean behind the baby, silently watching. Booby's smile fades as the painful conclusion sinks in; that is the turtle's true mother and it wouldn't be fair for him to raise its child. As the hatchling approaches him, Booby, with tears in his eyes and a shattered heart, runs away.
