Tear Jerker / Halsey

Go To

  • The track "Sorry" is a beautifully haunting and a tearjerking ode to Halsey's ex-lovers as she apologizes over and over again. It gets worst as the video depicts Luna (Halsey) looking around in absolute horror at the demolished vehicles and dead bodies in her home of the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.
  • On March 25, 2019, Halsey tweeted about her personal health, particularly her endometriosis. In the tweet she also revealed that she has had 3 miscarriages, one of which occurred during her August 2015 Vevo LIFT performance.
  • Throughout the track "More," Halsey longs for her unborn child, confessing that her trials and tribulations have increased her love for the future baby. The background instrumentals containing the sounds of a child's jukebox only add to the emotional sadness.
  • "929," which is a stream-of-consciousness narrative about her ups-and-downs over the past few years.
And I remember this girl with pink hair in Detroit,
    well, she told me...
She said, "Ashley, you gotta promise us that you won't die,
'cause we need you," and honestly, I think that she lied.
  • "The Tradition," focuses on a woman forced into sex trafficking, the breaking down of her spirit and the blasé attitude of both the men selling her and buying her.
  • "Ya'aburnee" discusses how much Halsey wants to spend time with their child, and that they hope this child will bury her before the opposite happens. For fans of Hamilton, this line hits extra hard and even if you aren't, it's every parent's wish for their child to outlive them, and having it put into words really gives the listener a very raw feeling inside once the song concludes.
  • "Darling" is a lullaby of love dedicated to their future child when life gets rough. Halsey also alludes to suffering previous losses before welcoming their child into the world.
Driving past a graveyard on a lonesome street
All the little flowers gave me something to believe in…
  • Halsey's recent TikTok video challenge which also acknowledges her previous losses. Some of which doubles as Heartwarming:
8 year old me would be so surprised my brothers and I are best friends
14 year old me would be confused we didn't marry Harry Styles
17 year old me would have loved my fans
19 year old me wouldn't believe we are Grammy nominated
21 year old me would the beautiful son that arrived after the losses
24 year old me would thank God that we got out
27 year old me is glad I stayed alive.
