Tear Jerker / Foxcatcher

• The murder of Dave Schultz is a terrible thing to bear in the film's closing moments, especially given how much he'd been portrayed as the film's most sympathetic character. It's even more heartbreaking, knowing that his wife was forced to witness it.
• The backstory of the Du Pont family is harsh enough that one can almost sympathize with John. It's hinted that the family suffers from mental illness, and John's upbringing was not a happy one, given how he only had one friend growing up, who, even then, turned out to be someone hired by his mother to keep him company.
• Mark's anxiety at not measuring up to his brother, as well as not living up to John's standards. This gets so bad that, after losing a round in one of his matches, he beats himself up, trashes his hotel room, and binge eats several courses worth of room service food.
  • The brothers' affectionate scenes together, particularly the one in which Dave comforts a devastated Mark after the aforementioned hotel room-trashing, are even more poignant when you consider that Mark Ruffalo's brother was murdered in 2008 (though in the film, it's Ruffalo's character who dies, not his character's brother).
