  • When Sabine is designing a plan, she begins having visions of her late daughter, and hears her calling her name. After responding, she then snaps back, the reality of her situation becomes crushingly aware.
  • Madame Le Notre continually cheats on her husband Andre, and when having suspicions of Andre and Sabine's relationship, Andre confronts her with the truth.
    Madame Le Notre: Andre, a builder?
    Andre: I'm a builder, Madame!... You and only you dictated how we live now, and you did it ,madame, when I needed you most.
  • Madame Le Notre comes to the fountain and threatens Sabine, then floods the garden, destroying it.
  • Sabine almost drowning and only just being saved by Andre.
  • Sabine approaches Andre to reveal their real relationship:
    Sabine: Am I part of an amusement for you?
    Andre: (stunned) Not at all.
    Sabine: I'm unused to all this.
    • Then, when they try to have sex, Sabine can't do it.
  • The King comes to inspect the garden after the rain, it's ruined and filled with mud.
  • The discussion with the women, who bond due to their shared grief. The conversation is truly heartbreaking.
    Christine: Children? ( Looks at Sabine's face) Dead?
    Sabine: A girl.
    Francoise: How old?
    Sabine: 6.
    Madame De Montespan: Palatine has lost her son, too.
    Princess Palatine: He was four. So little and beautiful.
    Christine: Charles was one.
    Sophie: I lost Joan and Ann together. Smallpox.
    Suzanne: I lost my husband and my son on the battlefield. They died in each other's arms. I'm barely here.
    Anne: How did they die?
    Suzanne: Do you find it hard to speak of it? That can happen.
    Sabine: I put everything in a truck. All their clothes, shoes, her toys. I haven't had the courage to go in there since.
    Suzanne: When you are strong enough, my dear. When you are strong enough.
    Madam De Montespan: We're not allowed to speak of death at court. The king does not like it, but we speak about it amongst ourselves. Nobody may ban a child from its mother's heart.
  • The reveal of Monsieur De Barra and Marie-Claire's death. Monsieur De Barra disclosures to Sabine that he has a mistress, and is taking their daughter on a business trip with him. As they are leaving, Sabine notices the faulty carriage wheel and chases after them. As she tries to block them, the carriage veers off road, and topples down a steep embankment, instantly killing both father and daughter. Reliving this memory, Sabine lets out the most blood-curling screams
