What's the work?
Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical RPG made by Firaxis Games, the same company that made the new model XCOM games. Story-wise, it's a Cosmic Horror Story centred on the Original Generation Player Character, the Hunter, and their struggle alongside the team of mystical superheroes (guest starring some Avengers and X-Men) known as the Midnight Suns to thwart the efforts of their evil mother, Lilith the Queen of all Demons and Herald of the dark god Chthon. Gameplay-wise, it's a card battler with elements of social interaction with the various heroes.
Despite my hopes, Lilith does not count. Per her backstory, she loved her husband, and all her misdeeds were an attempt to protect her child and prevent Chthon from taking over the world. She does a terrible job at it, but is consistent enough that I can't possibly do an effort post on her. She just won't keep as a CM.
But you know who might?
Who is Chthon? What has he done?
Chthon is the Marvel Universe's "I can't believe it's not [X]!" version of Cthulhu, as the name might suggest. He is prominently associated with the Darkhold, a Tome of Eldritch Lore that serves to corrupt any who read from it and turn them into conduits of his power on Earth, which he is currently scheming to return to. Despite this, and his central role in the game's backstory, he only has a few minutes of screentime. Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I proposed a candidate to be a Complete Monster with extremely limited screentime, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
Anyway, this effort post will summarise the relevant events of a prequel short on YouTube detailing Lilith's backstory and how she came to be Chthon's Herald (you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er2utNHGTmQ)
and the final battle in the game (which, again, you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sboHBTkifc) as well as a few elements of the main plot that encompass the monstrosity of the efforts conducted on his behalf by Lilith and her own puppets.
